At the end of June, Michael Sagas, Ed.D., professor, will conclude his role as interim chair of the Department of Sport Management in the College of Health & Human Performance.

Dr. Sagas oversaw the department for 12 years, as chair and interim chair, including when the department was combined with the Department of Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management. Michael Reid, Ph.D., dean, attributed the elite status of the sport management academic program to Dr. Sagas’ tenure.

“Dr. Sagas’s commitment to rigorous scholarship and his entrepreneurial vision for education have helped grow the program, both in size and academic distinction,” said Reid. “As importantly, his leadership has helped foster a strong sense of community enjoyed by faculty, staff and students.”

Dr. Sagas will continue to pursue new academic initiatives and serve as professor within the department.

Yong Jae Ko, Ph.D., professor, will serve as interim chair of the department starting in July. Dr. Ko has worked in the department for more than 15 years and has successfully led the UF Korea Global Sport Leadership Program. His research is focused on socio-psychological variables that influence sport consumption, service marketing research, and sponsorship and sport branding.

“Dr. Ko has worked closely with Dr. Sagas to familiarize himself with the workings of the department,” said Reid. “We are honored to have Dr. Ko as the interim chair - please join me in congratulating him on his appointment.”
