| Tourism Crisis Management Research Institute |
The Center was recently awarded a major funding grant (five years) by the University of Florida to create the Tourism Crisis Management Research Institute to analyze and respond via research to the needs of the tourism industry.
The purpose of the Institute would be to position the CTRD as the leading source of information related to crises and impacts on tourism. Questions which would guide this research agenda will likely include:
1) What is the impact of the current crisis on tourist¡¯s perceptions of different destinations?
2) How do governments respond to the traveling public when a crisis occurs?
3) Are there differences in how people respond to natural disasters (i.e. Tsunamis, hurricanes, floods, fires, bad weather) versus human disasters (i.e., terrorist attacks) versus health related disasters (i.e., Avian flu, SARS,
EEE) with regards to their travel plans and perceptions of destinations?
4) Is there a difference in how people perceive traveling in general versus traveling to the area where a crisis event occurred?
5) What aspect of the tourism industry (e.g., hotels, airlines, attractions) is most affected by the crisis? |
