Visiting Scholars

EFTI values the partnership and contributions generated through hosting professional colleagues from other national and international universities and organizations. Collaborative partnerships serve to enhance the mission of the Institute and also the Department of Tourism, Recreation and Sport Management, especially related to research, scholarship, procurement of external resources, and teaching.

EFTI does receive various requests and all proposals are evaluated accordingly based on established guidelines. It is recommended that all potential visiting scholars initially inquire with the Institute Director for more information about opportunities and respective procedures.

Professional visitors must be officially approved in a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Institute Director and Department Chair. Additionally, majority of the faculty members in the Institute and the Department of Tourism, Recreation and Sport Management must vote to support the proposed visit. Final approval is granted by the College Dean prior to the commencement of the official visit.

The Memorandum of Understanding is based on the proposal request submitted by the Visitor and minimally specifies:

  • Name and professional affiliation
  • Short- and long-term objectives of the project or work
  • Major activities that will be conducted and rationale for working at the University of Florida to complete these activities, with a realistic timeframe for completion of the activities (Note: one semester/six months is the typical length of a professional visit)
  • Professional colleagues (faculty) within the hosting Center/ Department who will be involved in the project, their specific roles and commitments
  • Specific outcome(s) (i.e., professional publications, grant proposal)
  • If support services required are beyond those typically provided by the Department/Center (i.e., office space, telephone, computer, laboratory facilities), a plan for how those costs will be covered
  • Curriculum Vitae and supporting documents (e.g., travel funding, scholarship, etc.) also needs to be included
