HHP ALUMNUS HOPES TO BE CROWNED 'GATOR IDOL' | 10/15

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – An alumnus of the College of Health and Human Performance is a finalist in the Gator Idol singing contest, which wraps up Friday night at Midnight Madness in the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.

Trevis Prince, 26, graduated from HHP with a degree in sport management. Prince is among the three finalists competing for a $1,000 prize and the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at the men and women’s basketball games.

“I think it would serve as a great tool to actually have great music and inspire the crowd with what you are saying, something that has meaning behind it,” Prince said in The Gainesville Sun. “This is an opportunity for me to really display that.”

This is the first year the University Athletic Association has put on Gator Idol, which is a campus-wide competition that has been underway since Sept. 18. The three finalists, including Prince, will compete for the title beginning at 11:30 p.m. In addition, there will be special performances from one of the real American Idol performers throughout the evening.

Prince, who currently works in Gainesville as a claims auditor for Nationwide Insurance, dabbled in recording contracts a few years ago, and now has started his own recording studios, Trevis Prince Worldwide.

Midnight Madness, an annual event signaling the beginning of basketball season, will begin with the Gator volleyball game at 9 p.m. Doors open at 8 p.m.
