The Florida Center for Health Promotion (FCHP) advances the practice of health education through applied research and evaluation, training, and outreach.
The Center provides an innovative interdisciplinary research facility to fulfill needs of individuals and communities in today’s expanding healthcare environment. Faculty in the Center conduct applied research designed to address and solve major national and international health challenges. Health education scholars in training, under the capable mentoring and guidance of faculty, gain experience and expertise in “focus areas” established by the US Department of Health and Human Services as set forth in publications such as Healthy People 2010. Such focus areas include health issues (for examples, cancer (specific types,), diabetes, heart disease and stroke), and critical health skills (such as, health literacy, communication, genetics counseling, public health infrastructure and policy). The Center will offer certificate programs in these areas (via technology) which enhances its outreach mission.
