What is Eta Sigma Gamma (ESG)?
ESG is the national professional health education honorary founded on the campus of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, on August 14, 1967. The Alpha Lambda Chapter at the University of Florida was founded in 1978 under the leadership of Dr. Barbara Rienzo.  Our local chapter enhances the professional development of students while upholding the ideals of teaching, service, and research both individually and collectively.

Being a Member
New members are required to contribute $25 annually to defray local chapter expenses. The membership also includes a t-shirt designed for our local chapter. Returning members are only required to contribute a $15 fee, unless a new shirt is needed. Membership forms are available in FLG-6.

Benefits of Membership
ESG provides a leadership opportunity for students in the department of Health Education and Behavior.  Being a member of ESG, allows students to gain experience as a health educator at an affordable cost. Initiated members will be granted a certificate of membership and a subscription to the Health Educator Monograph, the scholarly journal published annually.

National Chapter Induction
Prospective students are required to submit an application by January 8, 2010 along with a one time national fee of $40. The induction ceremony is held during the spring semester. The requirements for the national chapter are as follows:

  • Undergraduate: 12 hours of HSC coursework; 2.7 GPA
  • Graduate: 9 hours of HSC course work; 3.0 GPA

Executive Board
