Consideration of applications for the Ph.D. program begins
January 1st for the following Fall term.
- Completed University of Florida online application
- Submission of a cover letter describing the applicant's areas of professional interest, areas of personal interest, and reasons for pursuing a Ph.D. degree
- Three letters of recommendation with original signatures from faculty members including at least one letter from a faculty member at the master's degree institution
- Writing Sample (One example of a single-authored work by the applicant such as a published article, conference presentation, course term paper, or other original work.)
- Submission of official transcripts for all previous college coursework to both the Graduate Admissions Office and Department
- Minimum 3.0 GPA for all upper-division undergraduate coursework
- Minimum 3.5 GPA for all graduate coursework
- All applicants must take the GRE. Scores will be considered as part of the entire application.
- At the request of applicants, ETS sends GRE scores directly to the Graduate Admissions Office at the University. The Graduate Admissions Office does not forward those scores on to the Department office. Each applicant is responsible for submitting a copy of the official score report to the Department office.
- Recommended minimum score of 4.0 on the Analytical Writing Measure of the GRE
- Required minimum score of 213 or 550 on the TOEFL for International Students
