DR. CHARLES W. LAPRADD ENDOWED PH.D. FELLOWSHIP

Charles W. LaPradd, a 1953 graduate of the College in physical education, was captain of the UF football team in 1952 and is a member of the University of Florida Hall of Fame, UF Athletics Hall of Fame and was named a University of Florida Distinguished Alumni. Dr. LaPradd went on to receive both his M.S. in secondary school administration and his Ph.D. in higher education administration from Florida State University. As a member of the President's Council and Gator Boosters, Dr. LaPradd continues to give of himself to the University of Florida and the College. He served as President of St. Johns River Community College from 1965 until 1972. In 1972, he retired from academic life and established a beer distributorship that still bears his name. Dr. LaPradd is retired and currently owns and manages a ranch north of Gainesville.

The Dr. Charles W. LaPradd Endowed Ph.D. Fellowship is a one-year award for an incoming Ph.D. student into the Department of Applied Physiology & Kinesiology. A Department faculty member must nominate potential candidates for the fellowship. The nominated candidate will be required to provide (a) a letter of intent and (b) two letters of recommendation to the departmental office. A selection committee formed by the Department Chair will determine the recipient. Selection criteria include:

  • Strength of training (as evidenced by academic, extracurricular, and/or research accomplishments) and intentions as a doctoral student
  • Letter of intent (no more two pages)
  • Two letters of recommendation
