Biography:

Joshua F. Yarrow, Ph.D., CSCS is a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Applied Physiology and Kinesiology, College of Health and Human Performance, at the University of Florida and the Geriatrics Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Fla. Yarrow received his Ph.D. from the University of Florida in sports medicine/athletic Training with a doctoral minor in human nutrition and is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Yarrow’s research interests involve evaluating novel exercise training strategies and specific nutritional/pharmacological interventions that are purported to enhance exercise performance in healthy, aging, and clinical populations.  He is currently working on a Veteran’s Administration funded human clinical trial which evaluates the skeletal muscle, bone, cognitive, and health responses to testosterone plus finasteride treatment in elderly men.  Additionally, Yarrow performs animal research which evaluates the skeletal muscle, bone, and cardiac responses to supraphysiological testosterone or anabolic steroid administration.

  • • Interventions to prevent and reverse sarcopenia of aging
  • • Interventions to prevent and reverse osteopenia/osteoporosis
  • • Neuroendocrine, metabolic, and performance responses to exercise or nutritional/ pharmacological interventions
  • • Skeletal muscle, bone, cardiac, and tissue responses to anabolic steroid administration
