Biography:
Bertha Cato, Ph.D., has been an associate professor in the Department of Tourism, Recreation and Sport Management for more than 17 years. She first started teaching at the University of Florida in 1976, and she later came back in 1990. Since her return, Cato has served as the assistant dean and the associate dean of the College of Health and Human Performance. She also serves as the undergraduate coordinator for TRSM and the faculty adviser for the Leisure Education and Parks Students Association.
In 2003, Cato received the Research Award from the Florida Recreation and Parks Association. She also was honored with the E.B. Henderson Professional Award from the American Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sport and Dance Ethnic Minorities Council.
She is currently a chair and gold medal judge for the National Recreation and Park Association. Other professional memberships include the Academy of Park and Recreation Administrators in which she serves on the NRPA Program Committee; American Association of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance; the Society of Parks and Recreation Educators; and the Shands Hospital African American Empowerment Healthcare Committee.
