DR.SCOTT POWERS HONORED WITH CITATION AWARD FROM ACSM

Dr. Scott Powers, UAA endowed professor of applied kinesiology and physiology, and director of the Center for Exercise Science, received the Citation Award from the American College of Sports Medicine during their annual ACSM national conference in June 2005.

Powers’ is one of four people in 2005 to be presented with the Citation Award. This award is presented each year to people in the sports medicine field who have led an accomplished career, making significant contributions to their profession.

Powers has been an active member of ACSM throughout his career. He has held numerous positions including president of the Southeast Chapter, member of the Board of Trustees and vice president. Additionally, Powers was selected for the ACSM Scholar Lecture Tour and presented the “President’s Lecture” in 2002. Powers will add the Citation Award to the other honors that ACSM has bestowed upon him which include being named fellow and receiving the Visiting Scholar Award and the Scholar of the Year award from the Southeastern Chapter.

The ACSM is a national organization of professionals who are employed in fields related to health, physical education, exercise science or sports medicine. The organization advances scientific research in exercise and sports medicine as well as raises public awareness about the health benefits of physical activity.
