Program Requirements
The ATEP has both a didactic and psychomotor component. Each student is required to complete 4 semesters of Clinical Experiences as part of the degree requirement. Clinical Experiences are assigned by the ATEP Steering Committee beginning the fall semester of the Junior Year. Students are required to complete all program requirements listed below before beginning required Clinical Experience. Some program requirements incur additional expenses to the student, above those already paid to the University through tuition, fees, and laboratory/equipment course fees. The actual expenses may vary, however good faith estimates are provided below.
- HIPAA and Confidentiality Training (Completed Electronically Annually) http://privacy.health.ufl.edu/training/hipaaPrivacy/instructions.shtml (Provide Certificate of Completion and Signed Confidentiality Statement)
- Meet Technical Standards with or without accommodations
- Abide by all ATEP Policies and Procedures (Acknowledgment Form and Clinical Experience Contract)
- BBP Training (Annually)
- Completed as a component of Principles of Athletic Training in Summer B and/or Clinical Experience I and III)
- Level II Background Check (approximate cost $60)
- The student will be notified of the process for completing the Background check in their acceptance letter. Students must successfully complete the Level II Background Check to progress in the ATEP.
- Professional Liability Insurance (annually) (approximately $15/year)
- Athletic Training Students are provided an opportunity to purchase Professional Medical Liability Insurance as part of the ATEP Blanket Student Policy provided through HPSO
- First Aid Certification and Emergency Cardiac Care (ECC) Certification must be completed and maintained throughout the duration of the Athletic Training Program. ECC courses must include a didactic and psychomotor component that meets the requirements listed below. 100% online courses do not meet the First Aid or ECC requirement and will not be accepted.
- ECC certification must include the following (as written on the Board of Certification website
- Adult & Pediatric CPR
- AED
- 2nd Rescuer CPR
- Airway Obstruction
- Barrier Devices (e.g., pocket mask, bag valve mask)
- Acceptable ECC providers are those adhering to the most current International Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiac Care. The two most common courses that meet these requirements are:
- CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider (American Red Cross)
- BLS Healthcare Provider (American Heart Association)
- Please note that other courses offered by the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association may not meet all of the above requirements. Please verify correct course enrollment by checking the Board of Certification website above or contacting Dr. Patricia Tripp pmcginn@hhp.ufl.edu.
- Professional Memberships (total approximately $85/year)
- Documented Membership in the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (www.nata.org)
- Documented Membership in the Southeast Athletic Trainers’ Association (www.seata.org)
- Documented Membership in the Athletic Trainers’ Association of Florida (www.ataf.org)
