Application Steps

Thank you for your interest in the Doctor of Athletic Training Program! Please follow the instructions below to complete your application for Summer B admission (the program begins on or around July 1 annually). To receive priority funding consideration, please complete your application by September 15. Review of applications will continue until positions are filled; students may be admitted without funded work experiences.

Timeline for Admission

• Admission cycle opens around August 1
• Priority funding consideration application deadline September 15
• Admission Committee completes academic review
• Funded Work Experience Committees complete employment review
• Interview process begins around December 1
• Admission decisions for funded positions begin December 1
• Admission decisions for non-funded students occurs around April 1

Materials Needed for Application

Admissions review commences after the September 15 priority deadline for completed applications. Please do not electronically send transcripts or GRE scores to the University of Florida using the school code; documents must be uploaded into the application system.

Complete applications include:

Section 1: Demographics and Conduct Code Information
Section 2: Qualifications and Clinical Experience

• Requires Documentation Upload: Official Transcripts for Bachelors, Masters and/or Certificate programs (as applicable)
• Optional GRE Scores

Section 3: Professional Experience

• Requires Documentation Upload: Resume/CV, Credential Verification (or eligibility); students in their final year of a professional Athletic Training program should submit a letter from their Program Director attesting they are eligible to sit for the BOC examination and intend to graduate prior to the admission date for the Doctor of Athletic Training program

Section 4: Essay Response
Section 5: Concentration Preference Ranking (Teaching & Leadership, Orthopedics, Sport Performance, Manual Therapy)
Section 6: Funded Work Experience Setting Preference Ranking
Section 7: Name, Employer, Email, Recommendation Type (academic OR clinical) for 3 References

• References will receive an email with a link to complete an evaluation form and submit a letter of evaluation for the applicant.

International Students

International students planning to apply to the Doctor of Athletic Training (DAT) program applicants must successfully challenge the Board of Certification (BOC) examination. We welcome applications from international clinicians credentialed through the BOC International Arrangement process.

Please review the University of Florida International Center (UFIC) information and ensure you have the necessary document(s) to process your international admission through the university, including visa requirements. International students must provide evidence of English language proficiency as outline by the University; please review information regarding acceptable scores and exemptions. 

Because of immigration and visa requirements, visa type influences an international student’s eligibility for funded work experiences.  International students on a J1 visa may be eligible for funding; however, students on an F1 visa are not eligible for Athletic Training Resident or Athletic Association Sports Health funded positions. Advanced clinical practice hours required within the Doctor of Athletic Training program in combination with an Athletic Training Resident position exceeds allowable hour limits for part-time Curricular Practical Training (CPT). ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Students must be credentialed as an Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification and licensed as an Athletic Trainer by the Florida Department of Health at the time of admission (on or around July 1).

Applicants must complete an interview process (virtual or in-person) with the committee as part of the admission process. Admission decisions occur in early spring and applicants will receive decisions notifications on or around April 1.

As part of the admission process, students must complete the requirements for Health Care Compliance with Student Health Care Center (SHCC) policies. Please review Health Insurance, Immunization and FAQs for more information. Students admitted to the Doctor of Athletic Training program are eligible to receive care at the SHCC, may purchase health insurance through the University, but are not eligible for Gator Grad Care. Please review eligibility information and fee structure available on the SHCC website.  The Doctor of Athletic Training program is a Professional, Healthcare program; please complete University requirements listed for Health Professions.
